Sunny days and summer weather mean kids of all ages are heading to the pool.
But did you know that drownings are the leading cause of injury-related deaths for children
ages one to four?
That means your family needs to be aware of pool safety hazards and know how to prevent
them. 1. Supervise children who are in or around
the water. It may sound simple, but keeping your eyes
on your kids is one of the easiest ways to prevent drownings. Remember, if a child is
missing, always look in the pool or spa first.
2. Teach children water safety skills. Either teach your children at home or enroll
them in swim lessons. These skills can lower your kids' drowning risks and help them
avoid unsafe circumstances around the water.
3. Learn CPR. If you're facing a pool emergency, knowing
basic life-saving skills can make the difference between life and death for your child. It's
also helpful to keep a first aid kit handy so you are ready to respond.
Following these safety tips can help your family stay out of harm's way this summer.
