Greetings Youtubers
It's been a crazy season on the ocean this year
and the inevitable has happened i've gotten a tear in my wetsuit
This is a Gul Response 5:3
made from 5 mm neoprene and 3 mm neoprene is basically all that means
and i have gotten a little tear in my sleeve here
I don't know if you can see that there
it is easily fixed, you just need the right stuff
liquid neoprene sealant or adhesive glue
today I am going to be using Black Witch
there are many others out there
I am not affiliated with them or anything like that
I just looked for the best value liquid neoprene sealant i could get
and this happened to be the one
it cost me £5 for this little tube
and it should do the job no problem
basically it has got solvent in and you apply it to both sides of the cut
you need to wait a couple of minutes (2-5 minutes)
for the solvent to evaporate off
you have to do that in a well ventilated area
and then once ready you press both sides together and hold it in place
and then your repair is sealed
it is going to have a little black line here when it is done
but it will maintain your waterproof seal and you won't leak water in at your tear
so then i'll change the camera position
i'll get in position to do the sealant
and i'll show you how it goes
Right then I am in position now and i've made a little work station if you will
this is going to assist me in holding open the wound on the wetsuit
i'm using my kettlebell here
this basically gives me an extra hand free instead of constantly having to hold the wound open
I've got a little spatula here that i will use to apply the neoprene solvent glue into the wound and hold it open
I've got a little board here in case this spills out
like so
I thought it might do that
I've got a little bit here
apply liberally
right into the wound
That should just about do it i think, ive got plenty in there
maybe a little more just in case
The worst part with this cut
it is more of a tear than a fin cut or something like that
so it hasn't got any nice straight edges to seal together
just trying to put the lid one handed onto this solvent
it is not as easy as it looks
I am keeping the wound open here
and we are waiting for the solvent in the adhesive to evaporate off
just a couple of more minutes
it will go slightly opaque
as the solvent evaporates
Right then it has been 3 minutes since i applied the neoprene in solvent
I don't know if you can tell there on the camera but it has changed colour a little bit
just press it together
and hold it there
press it in place inside and out
and just to finish it off i'm going to put a little line over the top just to seal the outside
this can get messy
I'm not too bothered about it looking pretty I want it to be functional
the ocean where i use my wetsuit is very cold, The North Sea
even in the summer
that will do
I'll just wait for that to fully dry before putting it under any flex-stress and then you are good to go
Welcome back
it is 40 minutes since I applied the neoprene repair
as you can see it is nice and solid
and that is basically it
you must let it properly cure before use
which I read is about an hour
but I won't be in the ocean again until tomorrow when i am surfing
so that should be perfect
you can see it is nice and flexible in every direction
there is no danger of it just tearing open again
Brilliant
Nice and simple
hope you enjoyed that
