My name is Romain Froquet, I am a painter and I live and work in Paris.
I started to work, to paint a dozen years ago more or less
when I encountered the artistic collective 9eme concept.
Today my work is strongly inspired by my first love which was to work on African masks,
we can find all this dimension in my work.
Now, I reached a moment in my life where I want to do things much more personal,
and I'm starting to focus on deeper questions such as the Why,
meaning to favour the content rather than the form.
When I unrolled this piece, this picture,
it immediately talked to me, it captured my attention,
there was something very chaotic in this picture,
something violent but it was more like...after the storm, after the chaos.
I think that after the chaos, order reappears but that after the order, the chaos returns
and that's a permanent cycle that humanity experiences
so this is what I felt like working on.
I wanted to make a big canvas, a very dense one, very chaotic, very dark
but quickly I stopped because what I wanted was to show something else,
I did not want to talk about the chaos,
I wanted to talk about the order which returns afterwards, the nature that regains its rights.
Then, I started to work with typography,
I scratched the canvas because I had words coming to my mind
so that's when I started to work on something busy,
shapes, arabesques, masks always present in my work.
And then, on a part of the canvas, I wanted to a have a small area of tranquillity,
something that breathes a bit more and that's where I brought a tree...
Why a tree? Because it's the symbol of vitality.
Once the piece was finished, I cut the canvas
because I wanted to extract just a piece out of it.
What I wanted to remember out of this chaos was that the order can return and that life can regain its course...
This is the piece extracted from a bigger canvas that I wish to present for the project ART AND PASS.
