Hello everyone. Michael here once again with the Daily Note II/3 YouTube channel. This
video is part 2 of what's new on Android 4.3 for the Samsung Galaxy Note II. So are you
ready to see something you didn't know about for your Galaxy Note II running Android 4.3?
Well, let's get started. So the first thing I wanted to show you today
was an updated Multi Window function that allows you to drag and drop, between two apps.
So let's make sure the multi window function is enabled. And let's turn it on by holding
the back button. You can see the tab has changed colors and
it looks a little smaller. It is a hybrid between the Galaxy Note 3 and the Galaxy S4's
Multi Window feature. You can move it to the side, but you can't move it to the top bottom
anymore. No big deal. You can see there is no ability to pair apps and launch both apps
at once like you can on the Note 3. However, if you launch 2 apps, you will see that, the
controls look identical to the note 3 controls except with some features removed. I'll get
back to what was removed in a little bit. But let me show you how can you can drag and
drop text between two applications. So right now, I have the stock browser open,
and my Gmail app open. I'll select some text, and drag it to the body of the email. So I
would say this should work in a lot of apps that display text. I've tested a few. The
Messages App, Boat Browser, Dolphin Browser. But some apps do not let you select text.
And some apps have custom functionality that get in the way of you dragging text. But most
of all apps let you drag text within the text input field. So to demonstrate this, you can
see you can't select text in the Facebook app. And in the Gmail app, you can select
text, but you cannot drag. Bottom line is, if you're using this to get
some work done and it is important to you to drag and drop text, likely, you will be
able to find apps to do this with, although not every app supports it.
Now that's drag and dropping with text. Does it work with images? Surprisingly yes, but
not in the way that the Note 3 does. One of the features that is missing for Multi Window
that the note 3 has, is the ability to grab any image off the screen and drag it to an
app that has the ability to receive images from a drag and drop. However, you can still
drag and drop images as long as the app directly supports dragging and/or dropping. But let
me warn you, they are rare. They do need to be specifically programmed for this function.
Here are a couple that I found. The App Photo Desk is one of the rare apps
that lets you drag an image file. You can drag this image onto Evernote.
And you can drag this image onto the Stock Email App to send it in an email.
I think the more popular this function becomes available to smartphones, the more the app
makers will support drag and drop. Just like multi window. There were very few apps that
supported multi window a year ago but now it seems like if the app benefits from the
multi window ability, it usually supports it.
You can certainly make great use out of it with the right apps and the right applications.
But still lots of room for improvement when it comes to apps supporting it, and it is
at its infancy. So just one more thing I wanted to point out
today. The Stock Browser has been updated on the Note 2. But this one surprised the
heck out of me. I was expecting the same new stock browser that I got on my Note 3 where
flash didn't work and these Labs feature wasn't there. No. Someone at Samsung or Google is
still putting a lot of time love and care into the original stock browser on the Note
2. A cold start is super quick now. Flash works perfectly and never had a crash. The
Labs feature is still there. And look at this. It is instant. There used to be a lot of lag
here. Not on this version. And you can pinch out as always. But look at how smoothly this
glides now. Chrome might have nice animations but forces you to surf on the mobile websites.
The reality is, a good percentage of websites have terrible, useless, seriously underdeveloped
mobile sites. And there is no reason that I need to limit myself to mobile sites. The
Note 2 demonstrates that you can have uncompromised full desktop experience with or without flash.
So please Samsung, put this browser into the Note 3.
So that's it for today. I think I'll have around 8 videos for this series. So if you
found this interesting and you haven't subscribed yet, please subscribe for upcoming videos.
And remember to hit like and share this video so that other people are aware of these features.
So see you in part 3 of What's New in Android 4.3 for the Galaxy Note 2. And once again,
thank you for watching.
