Hello
Today I'm going to show you how to create an American Sociological Association citation
for a book chapter.
Then, you'll be able to create one on your own.
Let's get started!
Here we have a citation for a book chapter.
The parts of this citation include:
The author of the chapter
The year the chapter was published
The title of the chapter
The pages in which the chapter appears
The book in which the chapter appears
The editor of the book
The place of publication
And the publisher name.
Let's take a closer look at these parts.
We'll start with the author name.
Here, the author's name has been inverted. That means that the last name is first, followed
by a comma, then we'll have the author's first name followed by a period.
Next, include the year the chapter was published, followed by a period.
The next part of this citation is the title of the chapter.
Here, the chapter title is enclosed within quotation marks, and within those quotation
marks is a period.
In ASA citation format when you create a second or third line, be sure to indent your line
three spaces over.
Also be sure to double space your citation.
The next part of this citation is the pagination range.
Take note of this abbreviation for pagination: Capital "P", lower "p" period. Then include
your page range.
Next include the word "in" (i-n).
That gets you ready for the next part of this citation, which is
Showing what book the chapter appears in. This is the book title, which has been italicized.
Also note that most of the words in the book title have been capitalized. After the book
title, include a comma.
Next is the editor statement. Include the words "edited by" and then include the book
editor.
Here we have the editor's initals, and then his full last name. The editor statement is
followed with a period.
Next is the place of publication. Here we have a city. After the place of publication,
include a colon.
Finally, include the name of the publisher. After you include the name of the publisher,
include your citation with a period.
And that's how easy it is to create a citation in ASA format for a book chapter!
