The governor's speech tonight, I thought was
delivered reasonably well and brought out some very important things
that we need to look at in the state of Indiana. I think his stress for
education was appropriately placed, however I felt like it was totally
inadequate
with what he's presented in the budget.
Certainly a 64 million dollar increase or 1 percent
increase in
funding for education to try to make up for the 300 million we've
had cut for the last
two budgets isn't nearly enough, especially when we have money
that we could use to do that.
I was pleased to see him
talk about adding money into the roads program
because he said that that would create jobs if the government could put
some money into the roads program and I am very much in favor of that.
So we're going to be working with the governor on many of
these things.
Again though I was very disappointed that
we're still looking at a relatively minor amount of money into education
and we need to be looking at
putting more money into ed and
we certainly aren't at a point where I think we can have a tax cut at
this time, so
we need to really take what he said and
work with what we can and try to
move forward on other areas that we disagree.
