First Lady Michelle Obama: Hi, everyone.
In the coming days, I will be traveling to South Africa and
Botswana to meet with young people from across Africa,
including the Young African Women Leaders Forum.
I am doing this because we know that Africa is a
fundamental part of our interconnected world.
And when it comes to meeting the challenges of our time,
whether it is climate change or extremism, poverty, or disease,
the world is looking to African nations as vital partners.
And we will be looking across the continent to young people
just like all of you to help lead the way.
We will be looking to women like Toyosi.
She is a 28-year-old from Nigeria who every year gathers
50,000 people for the largest youth conference in her country.
We'll be looking to young people like Annah,
an 18-year-old from South Africa who produces hard hitting
stories as a citizen journalist on issues like climate change
and ***/AIDS.
Everywhere I have gone during my time as First Lady,
I have been inspired by young people like Toyosi and Annah.
And I know you will too.
So I hope that you will follow our trip at:
WhiteHouse.gov/YoungAfrica.
And you can join the conversation on Facebook
or by using the hash tag, #YoungAfrica on Twitter.
See, when you connect with other young people,
when you share your thoughts and ideas and take the time
to listen to theirs, you begin to realize just how much you
have in common.
You see that whether you live in New York, New Delhi, or Nairobi,
so often we share the same values, the same goals,
and more importantly, the same dreams.
So I look forward to having you with us on this journey.
And I look forward to the connections that you will build,
the lessons you will learn, and the impact you will make with
young people all around the world in the months
and years to come.
So thanks so much, and we'll see you on the trip.
