Let me tell you a wonderful story, as eloquently told by wise men.
Adapting a Broadway musical not only incorporates the adaptation of the texts in French,
but also that of the songs, since the songs play a huge role with regard to the plot.
"The circle of... The circle of life"
It also means a cultural adaptation.
For example, a pun in English doesn't necessarily work in French,
so we've had to translate the actual puns.
"The Morning Report!"
So we have: "The orangutans and the macaques become monkeys." Perfect.
Then we get to the elephant shtick.
"Elephants remember, though just what they can't recall."
Let's say, "The elephants, all amnesiac, are racking their brains."
For the songs, the French text must fit the notes and the rhythm perfectly.
The audience must feel like the text was written directly in French.
I think we should start with the article.
"The elephants... The elephants, all amnesiac... are racking their brains."
"The rhinos act ferocious for fear of being attacked."
