Sometimes, we get these emails you just can't ignore
for example, an email from MCC in Veghel (NL)
official partner of G-Tech for the Netherlands
"If we wanted to go to G-Tech with a 240 BHP Abarth"
to get the software updated
G-Tech is a German company, responsible for the most insane Abarth's
and of course we couldn't pass on this opportunity
so our trip starts in Veghel (NL), at MCC Sport
this company specializes in building rally cars and Abarth tuning
after a lot of miles with snow, traffic and a couple of topspeed runs
we have arrived at G-Tech
we're here for the software of this one
the ECU has to be changed to fit the current hardware
as soon as you turn up at the building
you immediately see the most special creation
the Sportster
we hope we can drive it, maybe even today or tomorrow
but first, we'll get this one sorted out
We chose Abarth because with Abarth there is a gap, because it's a niche
Because Abarth is special
Many vehicles on the road today are boring
and this car is different
and that's why we do it
but also because Carlo Abarth was exactly the same as I
an individualist
someone who liked to go against the stream
I actually started at RUF, Ruf Automobile
That was my starting point, and that has shaped my life
in my time there I have learned a lot
in my time at RUF I have learned a lot and build my knowledge
I've met a friend there, Wolfgang Hagedorn
with whom I founded Novitec (Fiat, Alfa, Ferrari & Maserati Tuning
I had 10 great years over there
and after 10 years I said; now I have to try it myself
and then I started G-Tech in 2001
An employee of mine, he loves U.S. Cars and hot-rods
he brought me a magazine
and there we say a hot-rod that was chopped
and we found it absolutely great
Then I wondered whether a 500 could be like that and I just did it
but it is really hard, the chop is very hard
Here at G-Tech you can get your Abarth up to 305 BHP
That will cost a lot and the frontwheels will struggle with that much power
It doesn't have a limited-slip diff, but here they can fix that
This is one of the last ones they have so I'll be careful
But this is the limited-slip from the Opel/Vauxhall Corsa and Astra OPC/VXR
We really liked those things
So íf you get one of the power upgrades, get this as well
Firstly we do Abarth
Every model that Abarth brings us
but we also try to market our Sportster
which is going great
we can make seven cars a year
and these seven are sold for this year
they're gone
And for our little company, this is a crazy success
But we must also say; worldwide
We have globalized
we had to position ourselves globally
because in the German market, there is no real business for this car
Frank (van Ganzewinkel -Founder MCC Sport)
is a very good friend of mine
I met Frank when I was at Novitec and at Novitec it was really good to work with him
and the friendship held
we have in him a very, very good partner for the Netherlands and Belgium
and I hope it will remain so for some years to come
And we ourselves at G-Tech
we are now planning the leap to the Alfa Romeo brand
with the new 4C we hope we finally have the technical background that we need
to be able to also do this car justice
because we cannot, unfortunately, bring all of the products we want
because of the financial market
so we're hoping for some more cars like that in the future
We just came from G-Tech and the weather hasn't gotten any better
The car has 240 BHP now (was 236) but it runs so much better now
there is less turbo-lag
as you can see the spring has arrived in Europe
so we won't do a review of this car right now
but we will back in the Netherlands with better weather
so stay tuned!
