Civic Engagement Scholars Program
Case Western Reserve University
Making A Difference
CCEL Scholars Commit to 50 hours of community service
25 of which are served at one local nonprofit
Scholars participate in an orientation training session
and the annual Civic Engagement Conference
They attend 3 community-focused programs
and write a final reflections summary
before being honored at the year-end reception held at President Snyder's house
So, why become a CCEL Scholar?
Suneil Kamath Freshman--Centers for Families & Children
I was interested in becoming part of the CCEL Scholars program because
ever since I was young my parents stressed the importance of giving back to the community.
So coming to college I really wanted to continue that tradition, and I thought that the CCEL
Scholars would be a great program for me to take part in community service and experience Cleveland.
Anna Grace Kitson Freshman--Project Step-Up
Service is a big part of who I am, so when I came onto campus and I
heard that there was an organization where that was all they did, serve and connect with
the community I was really excited to get to know the other people who were involved
with that program and help them fulfill their mission of breaking out of the bubble.
Natascha Cirignani Sophomore--UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital
I became interested in CCEL Scholars initially just because I was
the service chair for my sorority and they said it would be a good idea to get connections
but then I ended up getting a lot out of it having all these opportunities to do service
around the area and learn a lot about Cleveland.
Allison Luoma Junior--UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital
I love to do service, I always have, but sometimes I get other things get
in the way like school and things like that and I always feel like I can’t find the
time to do it, so having something to keep me accountable is really helpful for me and
I’ve done a lot more service because of it.
Rishe Sivagnanam Freshman--Church of the Covenant Tutoring Program
I became interested in CCEL Scholars only because I’m from California
and I thought CCEL Scholars would give me the experience that I needed to get in touch
with the Cleveland community.
Joshua Lehrer Freshman--UH Rainbow Babies & Children's Hospital
I was interested because I love community service and giving back to
the community. It’s a simple answer but I think it’s a very important thing for society.
Whatever your reason... Get involved!
