this is meteorologist Ed Shimon at the National Weather Service with a
multimedia weather briefing concerning the
bitterly cold wind chills coming up the next couple days
We have a wind chill warning in effect for the northern half for the
area
starting at midnight tonight through Tuesday at noon
for wind chills 25 to 35 below. we have a wind chill advisory affecting the
southern half the area
during that same time for wind chills of fifteen to twenty five below zero
The potential for hypothermia will exist all through this time
with frostbite potential in 10 to 15 minutes
on exposed skin. some numbers across the area
tonight will be bitterly cold with even colder conditions
around 6 a.m. on Tuesday morning. We will see wind chills as low as thirty-five
below
across the north including Bloomington champagne as well as Peoria
slightly warmer air will return
Tuesday night. With Wednesday morning wind chills
still very cold but then only
15 to 20 below zero range. this weather will
start out with a cold front passage this evening
and a burst of light snow directly behind that, as
very gusty winds develop tonight. the cold front will push
much further east of the area by
6 a.m. on Monday morning and winds will sustain as the colder air
in invades Illinois. Due to the strong winds tonight a wind advisory has been
issued
from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. tonight for sustained winds up to thirty
miles an hour with Gusts up to forty five miles an hour
as that snow burst moves in. it will
generally be a two to three hour burst light snow.
this evening accumulations may be a dusting to a half inch, but the high
winds
will make near whiteout conditions at times during that snow burst.
so visibility will be a concern for travelers
this evening. so the overall details
tonight through Tuesday morning will be the dangerously cold wind chills
with a quick burst of snow and near white-out conditions this evening and
very strong winds develop behind the cold front.
