How to draw a face - PaigeeDraw Manga Video Tutorials - Big Eyes - Part 3 of 3 Coloring. By Paige Rohrick of PaigeeDraw
Hi, I am Paige Rohrick from PaigeeDraw, and welcome to my How to draw manga video tutorials.
so now I am going to start coloring. I start with the skin because it is the lightest color.
if you do skin color after the hair, then the skin color can smudge into the face.
You want to start with your lightest color first. I will start with the base color which is e0000
I have just finished the base, so now I am going to put in R20.
The pink tones.
I first start with the cheeks, and I do some shading with it.
This is where you want to know where your light source is going to be.

and around the nose and just a little bit around the lips. And it look....
You are going to use the base skin color again, and blend it in a little bit.
This way it will not use that dramatic especially around the cheeks... You dont want it to be a giant glob of color.
You want it to blend in with the skin color.

NOw I am going to use my blender. The blender is 0. When I find that my marker is not blending properly, I use my blender.
My blender marker not only blends it also picks up some of the color. If I find there is too much color on the page, I pull out my blender to pull some of it off.
The blender grabs it. So it is useful. I use it especially in the hair.
Because this is not a full drawing, I am using the outskirts of the drawing to clean my pens. Normally I would not do this. I would have a separate piece of paper. Since we are just creating a face with no background, I can do this on this example.
Ooops, on this drawing there is some pencil marks. As I have mentioned in the other tutorials, pencil marks are bad. They cause your markers to smudge. (Or they smudge on the markers).
Now I am finished with all of the pink tones. I am going to make it a bit less pink by adding some earthy tones.
The e000 is a shade darker than my base color. I find that the earth colors add a little bit of brown or orange, so it make the skin look more natural.

It is not necessary to use as many colors as I use for skin. I do alot of shading, and I like using this many colors.
The more colors you have, the more colors you can use to shade and blend. But you dont have to use this many colors.
All you really need is a good light color. Then you can go over it a bunch of times to add shading. I did this in my earlier tutorials.
So I have just finished coloring the skin, now I am going to start with her hair.
Her base will be YR13, which is very orange. I am going to have to tone it down with some browns afterwords.
Since this is quite a big area, I have to go over it a bit. So one tip when you are coloring a big area, always have a base color. Then when you go over it with another color, you cannot notice if you have streaks.
at least as much. I just finished the base color, now I am going over it with e29.
now to make the orange look less orange, I am adding an orangy brown color. It will still look orange, just less orange.

Now I am going to add another brown. I could leave it like this, but I am going to add another redish brown. It will tone it down a bit more.
When you add more colors to the hair, it makes the hair stand out a bit more!
The way i do this, is I go where my thick finelining lines are and I add the color.

I am leaving this area out, this area will show where the shine on the hair will be.

how to draw a face, how to draw manga, how to color a face.
So now I have just finished coloring a face.
Coloring the hair. I could have left this area, but this area is going to demonstrate the shine on the hair.
Alot of people leave the area white. I find I like this technique better. You can still tell that light is hitting the hair. It still looks really brite.
Now all that is left is coloring the eyes... I am going to start with
yg13 which is a fairly bright green... Not extremely bright, but still bright.
And that will be my base color. now I will add g82 it is slightly more muddier. This is going to be my way of shading it. I just apply it to the top half of the eye.
Especially around the pupil. You cant notice the difference in color unless you look closely.
Even the slightest color change can make the picture look better.
Now I am going to put bg96 as the dark color around the eye. I am going to start with the pupil.
Let you markers dry, if you want then not to blend. Wet if you want them to blend.
I want this to be a bit blendy. Um... after that, I am going to add a small ring around the pupil in between the edges of the eye... not sure why I do that...
but it is how I color eyes... and you want to make...
sure the lighter area is dry when you do this... you dont want the lighter lines to blend in with the base colors... Now that...
I have finished coloring the eye... I can add a bit of shine. I use a white gel pen. Available on my online store... shop.paigeedraw.com you could also use paint, or even white out.
