concerning Angel Cabrales work and his Turn of the Sentry collection called "Automated
Defense Drone 209". 1. What do you see in this art?
What I see is a camera a vision of predator versus alien , motion detection and artillery
a military weapon a complete war machine a piece of artwork that shows the degree of
technology and its advancements 2. What is about?
To me automated domestic defense is about the automation of the military and its weapon
systems used today in a battle and how it will affect the role of humans in war
3. How do you know? This piece features a fine arm with its corresponding
weapon ammunition and three legs that imply ability to move independently few human manipulation
the video camera also suggests either a motion sensing aspect or that the piece can be controlled
remotely by a human which can view what the robot is seeing while not being in the same
direct area 4. What might the art work have meant to someone
at the time it was made? From the looks of it, it seems as if the artist
didn't mind making this artwork discrete and instead made it more sophisticated the piece
shows that it has been created for combat capabilities and future warfare
5. What makes you think so? Right of the bat I noticed the ammo the structure
the support from the three legs that hold the camera you can see that it is sturdy and
seems difficult to break or move 6. How does the artwork make you feel?
It m makes me feel as if it is a predator versus alien situation and I can see its missile
technology a war machine that will contribute in the future that can also be used as a military
tool that will concern in the future 7. What has the artist done that you feel
that way? Well of the bat the colors the black and silver
the gun itself the sensor the bullets ad robotic body parts
8. How is this a good work of art? In an experts opinion they consider the context
that this piece was made at a time where in which drones and robots are becoming more
popular more widely used in warfare and when the possibilities of automated units completely
replace humans without a need inhuman interaction in the battle field completely changing the
colors balance the work of art reality the metallic grey with black gives a unifying
controlling commanding quality to the piece 9. How does your interpretation compare to
what the museum or artist say about the work? Concerning his works name "The turn of the
century " Angel Cabrales in a way mocks the commercialism aspect that used to encourage
consumers to buy things and taking it to the next level suturing "why not use this fear"
we were concerned more on the potential production value his work would have machine of war and
physical capabilities 10. How does the comparison make you feel?
The contrast between art interpretation of the work and that of Cabrales shows the one
of the many ways one can view art.
