Let’s start at the library’s home page.
For physical library resources such as print books and DVDs, we’ll use the catalog to search for items we need.
The catalog allows us to look for titles, authors, and keywords.
We’ll pretend that we need information on Ellis Island.
A subject search will work nicely wit this term.
The first returned result looks interesting, and the catalog record indicates that it is available.
Assuming that we want this item to be shipped to the CLC, which means we don’t have to go to either the OCN or SEC campuses to use the library’s resources,
we can simply click on the “PLACE HOLD” link.
We’ll need to enter our SURF ID and password.
Next, we’ll select the “pick up” location. This is where the item will be delivered.
No need to worry about the expiration date field.
Once everything is complete, we just have to click on PLACE HOLD.
A confirmation message appears, indicating that a request for the item has been made.
Generally, available items are shipped to the CLC within 24-48 hours.
Once it gets there, we just need to go the CLC front desk to pick up the item.
After using it, we can return the item at the same front desk.
Keep in mind that books are checked out for 21 days,
and DVDs and CDs are checked out for 7 days.
