The iPad is NOT a pocketable device.
You take the iPad.
You take your everyday regular slacks
and you try to fit the iPad in the pockets...
No go! The iPad will not fit into
the pockets of your regular everyday pants.
Now if you have a pair of military pants or tactical pants you may be wondering,
Will the iPad fit into those cargo pockets, because
anyone whose seen
military or tactical pants have seen the gigantic cargo pockets
that they typically have.
The pants I'm wearing now
are American BDU clones
B.D.U. stands for Battle Dress Uniform.
It's a design that was used by the American Armed Forces for about 25 years.
Again one of the key features is this huge cargo pocket.
And let me show you some of the other key features of the American BDU.
It's got this huge cargo pocket.
It's got a button fly, no zipper on these BDUs.
If you want to identify American Military Pants they usually have this cinch
at the bottom of the pant leg.
This is a tell tale sign that they're genuine,
as opposed to plain cargo pants you would buy
at your regular retail store.
But will the iPad fit into the pocket of the American BDU?
Visually, it looks like it might work.
It's almost a perfect match. Here's the border ofthe pocket.
(Here's the border of the pocket)
And it seems to surround the iPad just enough.
And the iPad slides in very easily into the cargo pocket.
But
I'm having trouble
getting the flap over and yes, the flap
does NOT close when the iPad is in the pocket.
The question was will the iPad fit into the cargo pockets of the American BDU
the answer is yes AND no.
It fits, but it won't close
It's also, as you can see, it's very awkward.
It's not something you'd want to do.
So, no.
The (American) Army has redesigned their uniform now.
So they have a different style. An updated style.
Including the design of their pants.
I have a pair here.
These are now called the Amry Combat Uniform pants.
A.C.U. for short.
Compared to the old ones,
the pants pockets use velcro instead of button closures.
Visually they look like they're the same size.
Here's the bottom, here's the top.
It might even be a little taller.
So we'll see if the iPad fits into these.
I'm going to change pants.
Again the pants I'm wearing are clones.
They're built to the (American) military specifications
of the Army Combat Uniform in every way
EXCEPT for the color.
So they're not official, they're clones.
Bulit in every way BUT the color.
So here's a black pair.
Notice the velcro closures.
The iPad slides in again very easily into these pockets.
The Army Combat Uniform pockets.
The flap closes over one velcro section but not the other.
It's another yes AND no answer.
The iPad fits, looks silly.
But the pockets don't close.
Too Bad.
No pocketable iPad here.
The last pair of pants I wanted to show you are a
pair of tactical pants made by Tru-Spec.
These are Tru-Spec's pants
from their 24-7 Tactical Series.
It's not meant for military use
it's designed for
whatever tactical operations you need to do...
Security...
I think Sheriff's offices may use these.
They're meant to
have the functionality of a military style pant
but the appearance of a more casual pant.
These pants do not have cinches on the trouser legs.
But you can see these pants have huge cargo pockets as well.
Visually
You can tell this will likely NOT fit
the cargo pockets here
are a little smaller height wise than the iPad
and they're slightly wider than the iPad.
Let's give it a try though.
So this is a tighter fit than the Army Combat Uniform
or the Battle Dress Uniform.
This one is not going.
It slides in some of the way
but not all of the way.
The iPad again is not pocketable.
The more appropriate device of course
for your pockets is something like a cell phone
or for me, I have an iPod Touch.
The great thing about these pants is these have a specialized pocket
just for your cell phone,
and it's located on top of the cargo pocket.
It makes it much easier to use.
I've experienced it, it's great.
And here is the iPod Touch.
So if you want to carry around your iPad
your pants are not the way to do it.
You want to use something
more appropriate to carry around the iPad.
Like me
Here's something that's very low key
a padded manila envelope
Ta-da!
Oh, he's just got a regular letter,
But it's got an iPad in it!
Or you can use
any of the dozens of iPad cases that are coming out into the market right now.
Thanks for watching!
