So let's say you're looking at Bugs Ahoy!
And you find a bug that you want to work on.
We'll say 944375.
So I have this opened right here, and the next step is that you want to take this bug to work on it.
So if you happen to already have editbugs permissions.
What you probably don't if you're new.
All you'd do is click on take right here.
And then you'd become the assignee.
So I click on take, it fills in your email there.
And I click on save changes, and then I'd be the assignee of that bug.
But you probably don't have permissions.
So in this tab here, I have a user logged in that doesn't have permissions.
And if you look at the assigned to, this is the same bug number as before by the way.
If you look at assigned to you'll see that there's no take link anymore.
So what you'd do in this case, is you'd go down to the comment area.
And you'd just write a comment, something like.
I'd like to be assigned to this bug, could someone assign me please.
And then you'd press save changes.
And your Bugzilla email will automatically be available to someone that's watching the bug.
And they'll make you the assignee.
Now if you don't get a response within 24 hours, or if you want to be assigned to the bug even faster.
Feel free to also jump on IRC, and either go on #developers, or #introduction.
And simply ask on IRC and say: I'm looking at bug, and then say the bug ID, in this case 944375.
And my Bugzilla email is, whatever @ gmail.com or whatever your email address is.
And then say: Can someone assign me to the bug please.
And someone will jump in, probably pretty quickly, and assign you right away.
If no one is assigned to the bug, feel free to just start working on it.
You don't need to wait for someone to assign you.
But if someone is already assigned to the bug, you'll definitely want to ask before trying to work on that bug.
So I talked about if you already have editbugs permissions.
I'm just going to explain how to actually get that.
So to get editbugs permissions what you'd do is that you'd send an email to bmo-perms@mozilla.org (perms like permissions)
And you need to provide 2 pieces of data.
One is your Bugzilla email address
And Two is a little blurb of your contributions.
The contributions that you're required to have is either you need to provide 2 links to bugs that you've already provided patches on.
Or instead you can provide 3 bugs that you wanted to make a change on, but that you couldn't,
because you didn't have permissions.
And if you actually posted a message like I have right down here, that would count as one of those 3.
So you can see that you can get editbugs permissions pretty quickly,
and once you have that you can change all the metadata on the bugs.
