Airman 1st Class Jesse Brackenbury works with the 18th Logistics Readiness Squadron
on Kadena Air Base, but to elementary students, he’s simply known as Mario;
what started out as a Halloween costume turned into something much more
for the supply apprentice.
I hope they enjoy it you know, because they all play the games,
they all love the games.
So, for me to come in a big costume like this, I hope it puts a big smile on their face
and it’s something they can remember for a long time.
The children were all smiles as they got to meet a life-size Mario
and listened attentively as he read their favorite stories.
It’s been great. The kids love it.
I mean, I love walking around in it and seeing everybody’s expression.
It’s been a lot of fun.
The students surprised Mario with handwritten thank you cards telling him
how much his visit meant to them.
I’d like to keep doing this for other schools or other organizations
that like things like this and…
if I can keep putting smiles on people’s faces then I’m happy with it.
Airman Brackenbury has made three visits to Kadena Elementary
and read to around 500 students.
