The United States has warned that it will pull all U.S. troops out of Afghanistan by
the end of this year as the Afghan president is dragging his feet on signing a security
agreement with Washington, which was agreed upon last year.
Officials say U.S. President Barack Obama conveyed Washington's plans to his Afghan
counterpart Hamid Karzai on Tuesday. The U.S. says the agreement, which includes
legal protection for U.S. forces, has be in place before it commits to leaving some troops
behind for counter-insurgent operations and training.
U.S. troops have been in Afghanistan since 2001 when it toppled the Taliban after the
9/11 attacks.
