Hey guys! Mr. Clark here.
Today, let’s draw JAMES THE RED ENGINE!
And we’ll learn about different parts of a steam engine along the way!
Are you ready?
James is a mixed traffic engine, which makes him great at pulling everything from goods trains -
to dusty old trucks, but James doesn’t like to get dirty.
He’d much rather pull fancy coaches for important passengers.
The cabin is where the conductor works.
They’re responsible for regulating speed, fuel intake and sometimes even assisting passengers
on and off the train.
At the rear of the tank is the firebox where combustion occurs.
The firebox heats the boiler to power the train.
Fuel is continually added like coal, wood or oil. Yea!
Oh! And he’s got this really cool red paint job with gold trim – he’s very proud of it!
Footboards are kind of like car bumpers. They provide protection if the train crashes.
Accidents Will Happen. Hehe.
James has other cool features. Like his shiny brass dome,
his big number Five on the side of his tender,
and some very useful tools here on the font of his footboards.
For pulling trucks on the track, pushing trucks on the track,
and a pulley system to help move things off the track.
James is one super cool train!
