When you're setting out to create your character and concept, you're going to want to do something
that not only appeals to yourself, but will appeal to a wide variety of people. The reason
being is, once your comic book is out in the market, you're going to want one that sells.
Also, when you are creating your character you're going to want to do something unique.
Something that hasn't been done before. You don't want to get lost in a sea of similar
type comic books. When Steve Decks and I set out create Coney Waves, we tried to do something
that we felt was really lacking in the market place today, and that was self-contained stories.
Now a days readers have to buy anywhere between five or ten copies of one comic book just
to get a whole story. We were doing stories that had a beginning middle and end, all in
22 pages. We figured it was like more *** for your buck, and was something that was
really lacking in today's market. Also, the art style we were going for was more of the
70's vibe, more of a silver age look. And that's something readers haven't seen in over
30 years. When we were picking the setting of our comic book, we choose Hawaii. Not only
is it exotic, but one of the members of our creative team Dexter, is Hawaiian, so we felt
his knowledge of the islands would only strengthen the story telling. When you create your character,
you're going to want to draw in your own interest, your own expertise to help strengthen your
characters’ background.
