Hi I'm Forlando and welcome to the Road to ICN
In this episode, let us see how the script came about, and how it is translated
into a performance sound stage by the scriptwriter and the play directors, enjoy!
So, since the first time I read about the story of KEN AROK in the history books,
I have always found that this is the story that is full of dramatic potential.
I have always interested about them beyond their names and their actions,
I'd like to know more about their motivations and personality which I couldn't find in the history
So in this musical, we fill up this gaps
So we create this characters and their personalities and their motivations
which fits with the story
It has been our goal from the start to create a story but not JUST a story.
It will be an EXPERIENCE in which the audience can be engaged to
the biggest challenge that we face as play directors is that
most of the actors and actresses have little background in performing.
Through each rehearsal, we are molding them to become performers that
worthy of your applause.
We are combining enchanting music with beautiful dancing,
They can expect roller coaster of emotions because we'll be exploring
many characters and with their own problems
and they will have their own range of emotions
It will be exciting, heart-breaking, terrifying
all in one whole package of entertainment.
Apart from acting and singing,
dancing also plays a CRUCIAL role in bringing a musical to life
So, let us now meet the dance director of ICN 2014.
The choreography in ICN is done by several choreographers,
which I believe they have their own style, approach, and influence in making the choreography.
But the BIG idea of choreography in ICN itself,
is that it must support the plot of the story and the main theme of ICN itself.
As ICN is not just an ordinary play but it also comprises the VALUE of Indonesian culture.
Moreover, the choreographies are meant to be presented for the audiences in general,
So that everybody, even those who doesn't really have much knowledge in dancing,
could enjoy the show.
As one of the choreographers, I specifically take my inspirations
from modern contemporary dances that infuses ballet and jazz,
but I also try to infuse some movements from hip hop and traditional as well.
I think this Indonesian Cultural Night will bring you MORE DANCES than ever before,
and because we have so many different genres,
I believe that we can appeal to many audiences and I hope that,
through our dances, the audience can feel the exact same feeling of us when we are performing,
because we love to dance, and I hope that the audience will love it too.
