That was a crazy idea. To celebrate 10 years of commercialization of Espace and the Formula 1 V10
- world champion engine since 1992- Renault, with the help of Matra,
had combined the two into a single vehicle, the Espace F1.
In June 2002, Renault return to F1 and looks back at its past as a champion before winning new titles.
The decision is made to restart this beast
which hasn’t been driven since the demos by Alain Prost.
But one does not start the 820 horsepower V10, same as the world champion Williams’ one without some apprehension.
This is good. There is air, water, oil ... It's ok!
Yeah it's alright! The oil pressure is ok. Are we ready?
Yeah, let’s go!
At the wheel, Jean Ragnotti. An unforgettable experience for the famous driver.
When you drive, you have the contact here. All off, it is all the buttons up, each one.
If the air distribution pressure ever drops suddenly, it’s better you stop, or else the engine will destroy itself.
If you're, let’s say in 5th gear, avoids get back to neutral,
because it’ll shift down and the engine’s RPM may increase every time.
It is better, for security reasons, if you really have an issue, to declutch and kill the engine.
It's beautiful isn’t it? Listen to this, listen.
It's impressive for sure. In addition Jeannot is an artist, so it is really nice.
