Hi, I'm Benjamin, and I'm going to show you how to use JCCC's Credit Class Search.
To use the Credit Class Search, first go to the college's homepage, JCCC.edu. From here
hover your mouse over the Classes link at the top of the page and a drop-down menu will
appear. Select the Credit Class Search option.
Once you're on the Credit Class Search page, be sure to select your desired term from the
drop-down menu in the upper left corner. After your term is selected, you've got a couple
of options:
For quick, broad searches, you can simply type a few key words, such as a subject, like
Foreign Language; or you can search by department header, such as FL; or by department header
and course number, FL 130; or by CRN, which stands for Course Reference Number. Every
class at JCCC (both credit and continuing ed) is assigned its own distinctive CRN, which
you'll need for enrollment.
For more in-depth searching, you can use the Advanced Search by clicking the link at the
upper right of the Credit Class Search page. Here you can select specific departments,
time of day, or perhaps only look for online courses. For example, let's look for a Foreign
Language class that meets in the evening.
To the right of your search results, you'll see some helpful links and filters. The included
filters function only when you're searching by keyword in the search field (in either
the regular search or advanced search). You can use these filters to narrow your search
by classes still open or closed, by time of day, by subject code or by building.
In your search results, you'll find the CRN for each section. Associated with each specific
CRN, you'll find the course delivery method, meeting times, days, start and end dates,
the location where the class will meet, the professor's name, and seats available for
enrollment. If you see a "car" symbol in the Location column of your search results, this
indicates that particular section is taught somewhere outside the main campus. Because
this symbol will never appear in the class search found through your MyJCCC account,
always access the Credit Class Search on JCCC's homepage. Under Seats Open, if a course status
shows Full or Closed, you will not be able to enroll in it at the time of your search.
A course that is Full means it hasn't started yet and you could enroll in it if a seat were
to become available. A course that is Closed means that, due to JCCC's no-late-enrollment
policy, enrollment is no longer available for that class.
To see required textbooks for any particular course, click on the CRN associated with that
course. Also, by clicking on the professor's name associated with each individual CRN,
you can access his or her contact information.
You'll need to write down the CRN for any course in which you'd like to enroll. As long
as there are seats available, it is no later than the day before the class starts, and
you have fulfilled any prerequisite requirements, you are free to enroll in that class.
The credit class search is generally available one month before enrollment begins for a given
semester. You can also search past semesters from the last year to get an idea what courses
the college offered during those prior semesters.
