I came back from North Carolina, I came back to the City, to the Bronx, I had stayed out
there for two years to advance my skills in plumbing, I came back to the City to move
here, I received several trespassing charges from going to friends' houses in the same
complex where I stayed. This is where I grew up, I lived here over 30 years. I left here
just for two years to go out and learn a skill besides what I was learning here, to advance
my skills, came back, I'm getting harassed by the police officer like I never seen it
before. And this was all part of a weed and seed program that they implemented here so
that police have legit reasons to stop you and harass you for whatever they want to.
I was getting harassed here by the police for trespassing in the same complex where
I stayed, where I was living, the same complex. My friends come into court to vouch for me
stating that, "he was coming to see me," and this affected me to get on the lease of my
mom's because they're saying I have open cases, so this really affected me, I had to move
into a shelter, even though the cases were eventually dismissed after a year or two of
fighting, it was dismissed, or it wasn't even dismissed. It was a conditional dismissal,
meaning that if I stay out of trouble for six months it's totally wiped out of my record.
But that's not helping me when I'm moving into a city complex and they're making sure
that my record is clean. And that's the only thing on my record, is an open trespassing
case. Yes, I have a son. His name is Chance Scott. He was born in 2008 and that's when
I applied for us to move into my mom's place. And that's when they denied us because they
said I had an open case. And this is a six-month old baby, three-month old baby, we had to
move into a shelter? Come on, that's not a living condition for no baby, anywhere from
three to six months. And we had to move into a shelter. So, you know, that was a real hurtful
time in my life, and I had support here, you know, as a single male, trying to raise a
kid is hard.
