This season, Jon is kind of coming to terms
with his father's death,
and he's trying not to think about his brother too much.
JAMES CoSMo: The whole thing about the Night Watch is that it is all about duty.
once you join, you join,
and everything that's in your past is in your past.
He's had to move on, get on with it.
Because he's facing a really hard ordeal
'cause he's going north of the Wall.
When you're all the way north, there's only one direction to go.
Commander Mormont, he's told us that we need to go out there and
hit the wildlings before they hit us again.
All sorts of reports of their...
Them coming together in an organized way
and looking like they're gonna be attacking the realm.
It's our responsibility to keep them on that side of the Wall
and make sure they don't encroach upon the lands further south.
CoSMo: Jon has showed great courage.
He's earned the reputation
by fighting, killing a wight.
BRADLEY: Jon is kind of revered by Sam
and Sam holds Jon forever in his debt.
He kind of creates a kind of icon out of Jon, in a way.
I think he sees Jon as a real inspiration.
He'll talk his mind, he'll do what he needs to do
and he's got real sense of duty and honor around him.
It's someone in his life that he can really use as a guiding force.
HARlNGToN: You see him having to steel himself
and push back all these feelings and emotions
that would usually cripple a modern human being.
You want to lead one day?
Then learn how to follow.
He is not yet a full ranger.
So I think, in a way, Mormont wants to protect Jon.
Mormont sort of thinks of Jon as a sort of proxy son.
I think maybe Mormont sees a bit of himself in him,
and has huge hopes for Jon in the future.
