Alright so I got the displays out of their boxes
What is kinda actually cool is
I saw a couple other reviews online and some other
people's boxes were actually pretty messed up, these are actually
in perfect condition, maybe a couple of rub marks
I think, and you know, the standard kinda stuff that you would normally see
with
shipping a box of this size but
um
overall in the boxes are immaculate, hopefully you know that means
they're going to be fine, actually what I thought was kind of funny was
this is their the fragile sticker ... "Oh no, don't drop me!"
anyway, let me get these taken out of their
respective packaging, and see if I can put them on the
the arm. We'll see how this goes, I guess!
you know, in taking up the boxes and stuff like that first, I like to figure
out how to
take off the bottom
part of the monitor, that actually holds the bases, but I'm not using that since I have
the dual vesa mount, but I may have to go online real quick
try to figure that out. So they
(what I really wanted to go over was) these
power cords. So they come with the non
U.S. (United States)
They come with these non (United States) power cables
cables, but the european ones.
They may use these in Korea, Japan, anywhere but the U.S. (United States)
The sketchy part about this is, obviously that's a positive and negative (the cable)
They have two prongs, the actual part that goes into the monitor
has a ground (third connection as shown)
I like or myself grounded that's just how I am just they make me sleep better
at night. So they give you this silly little adapter, that goes into two prongs
I mean I guess you can use it if you wanted to, but it looks hideous.
look at
(laughs) it is really silly looking.
so, if you are going to get these monitors, and I read about this online
luckily I have plenty of the standard cables that come with like
any monitor known to man, that usually comes with like Dells and stuff like that
Go out to Radio Shack (electronics store), staples (Office supply store)
Office Max, Office Depot, because these things are just silly (The power cables).
so anyway, I figured I'd talk about that before I continued.
I just really kind of really loosely ran the cables, but essentially
every single one of my monitors has a DisplayPort Cable,
a DVI-D Cable for my PC which is below
and obviously the power. So I just the power cable.
So, technically I should be able to switch in between
PC and My Macintosh, both running the 27'' Monitor Screens.
So, just to kind of confirm it (the monitor)
the multi-model, the "QNIX".
Everyone who buys these monitors goes for the cheapest one. I think it's $327, or something like that
I paid $374, and I have
the DisplayPort, VGA
DVI-D, and HDMI
so, obviously
we're not going to be using the speakers inside this, because I bet you they sound like
trash
but, just kind of confirming that this is the "Multi" Model of the QNIX Monitor
now what I also noticed in the manual, and the stuff I was reading online
before pulling the trigger on any of this, was it was all
going to be in Korean (The language)
and that these monitors don't have a built in menu
now remembering all the reviews I read about this
those were always talking about the DVI
only QNIX 2710 model, NOT the "Multi"
the "Multi"s, actually, from this manual,
apparently actually do have an on-screen
control, for whatever the heck reason.
and it looks like, you know, like
there are RGB settings, and also that I can switch
the inputs with this on-screen menu.
which is interesting, so I think everyone saying that the QX2710
don't have an on-screen menu
is inaccurate, because like I said
the multi which is this, which has the on-screen (about to find out)
the manual says it has it
and the basic one, which doesn't because there's only one input.
so like I said, I'm going to try to take this off (the monitor stand base)
I remember seeing some basic review on how to do it online.
to pop these off, because it's very ugly. And because like I said it's going on the vesa mounts, so
I'm going to try to take that off, and obviously the second monitor and
and you know yep they're just like a I thought you name it but there's a lot
that just
literally four screws, take a flat head and gently twist
it and it pops up, there's really no
force needed to get the bezel off, which is sitting over there.
The monitor (the screws) for the actual
monitor stand is actually behind the LCD
So you need to just (I remember watching a video
online, about how to moving the panel off) because
my long term (at least my weekend project) is actually going to be de-bezeling
these, but for now,
I'm just going to run them in their own housing and see how it turns out. I might actually keep it that way.
But anyway, you don't need to take out any other screws to move the actual LCD Panel out
you just need to take your finger, with the plastic,
and pop it out of these little metal hooks
I'll do this side, because I'm holding my camera
for anyone else wondering how to do this.
Let me try to do this without using two hands. Let's see what happens.
Literally just pushed it out and it popped out, so
I'll do this side. See?
and boom, this should be completely free floating from what I read.
yes, it is. OK, so from here
I just need to take out these two philip head screws, and this will drop
down, I'll put the bezel back on, and
I'll do the same to that one, and it'll go up on the VESA mounts.
alright so, I took
the monitor stands off, and put them on the brackets, what I found out was the hardware kit that came with
the
monitor stand for the desk, these screws are
way too long for the back of the QNIX
monitors. For whatever reason they are
half of this. So they only go so deep
which means the screen will wobble back and forth. Luckily, I have
my old Dell 22'' Monitor
which actually had hardware behind
the monitor stand, and was actually able to take that monitor hardware off and
and luckily I also had another set for 4 screws as well, but if you are
getting it off of Amazon.com, be weary, because you might have to go out and
grab a VESA hardware kit, or
going to a hardware store and getting your own screws.
Definitely be weary of that. So I have them on the stand, I think
what I'm going to do is I'm actually going to move this
over to the left, later on,
now now, but later on, after when I make sure these
things work. But, I gave them power
I pushed the power button on, both indicated "DVI Input" I
I couldn't see anything wrong with the displays yet so,
I don't know ... but I'm about to plug them in (to my laptop)
so these are the Displayport to Mini Displayport cables, let's see what we got...
alright so my mac
flashed and it's obviously registering that I have
other displays plugged in, which is kind of nice :)
I have no idea how to
...menu? I don't know ... that's flashing...
"DVI Input ... power "
"Source ...?" Oh yeah, there is a little bit of a menu
That's kinda cool!
"HDMI Input"
I'm just hitting the "Source" button. Oh, Heyo!
Nice! Yes!
wow! No kidding! Oh, that's ...
oh my god I don't think I have any dead Pixels on this one
It's running at full resolution. Alright great, so
here's a good test. Let's get them both on
alright so, that's flashing
"DVI Input, DVI... no..."
"HDMI ... no "
Boom!
Oh my god, wow, that's ... that's a little mental (crazy)!)
Okay! So, let's see
if we have any issues with these.
This is nuts!
Alright, these are bright! Really really really bright!
Definitely looks like
there is going to have to be some color corrections
like I think the color is way off on this, it's very high contrast.
Trying to, see if I can
rearrange my displays here
where's the arrangement? Oh ok here we go
*Messing with monitor settings*
*Messing with monitor settings*
*Messing with monitor settings*
*Messing with monitor settings*
*Messing with monitor settings*
*Messing with monitor settings*
*Messing with monitor settings*
So far so good!
*Messing with monitor settings*
*Messing with monitor settings*
*Messing with color profile settings*
I had a lot of monitors plugged into my laptop :)
*Messing with color profile settings*
Alright so they need to be calibrated pretty bad.
yeah it's way
way off (the color calibration).
Alright, anyway, so let's
check for dead pixels. I found this pretty cool website
for testing your LCD monitor. I know the contrast is way off
Like that's not even close
to what's on my mac (laptop) screen.
I can kind of care less a little bit, these are obviously going to be color corrected
to a point. Just because mainly I do code, but I do deal with
PSDs (Images), and I would
kinda like them to show up accurately.
Alright ... here it is
"http://www.lagom.nl/lcd-test/all_tests.php#invpattern"
"Warning to not click previous or next if you are sensitive to flickering"
Alright...
"next"...
Just looking around here ... nope ...
that's dust ... these pixels are so small
on these displays it's like it's
crazy
Wow. I
actually don't think I have anything dead pixels on this.
"All tests". Here we go!
I'm noticing on my iPhone it's showing up as a dark spot but
being in front of it, so far, I can't see anything (wrong)
*mumbling*
*mumbling*
Not too bad. Here we go
There! ... Oh, I thought i saw one. There is no dead pixels
on this monitor. Holy crap! Wow!
I mean everyone takes a gamble
with these monitors, no reason
people are so hesitant with obviously
buying them. But I read a
in a recent review "Oh I didn't get any pixels"
This monitor really
has no dead pixels in it. I have no idea why they
... ok then. I'll push this over here.
To this monitor. Let's see what we got. It's
freaking me out because I have dust particles on my monitor. I'm saying to myself "Oh no!"
Yeah this color is way off. It's almost red.
But...Nope
Nope... Oh my god
my camera's is focus is going bonkers (crazy)
Oh my god I
two perfect displays! *laughs*
I rolled the dice and I got lucky numbers! *laughs*
Wow, okay, alright! So far, so great!
What I'll do next is
I think, in a little bit I'm going to move this stand a little bit over to the left so I can get
my light back a little bit.
So that, that display is a little bit off to the side a bit more.
On the side of the desk. Then I'm going to plug this into my gaming
PC, and I'm going to see what we really got
in terms of being able to switch inputs
back and forth. It's been my dream to have two 27''
1440p monitors, but being able to switch them
because I do a lot of CAD work, so, so far so good guys!
So I just rearranged my other cables around
a little bit, not bad
it's off to the side there, so I'm going to sit down
you know do a little more Q & A, but a lot of screen
real estate! That is a ton of
of screen real estate! So if anyone is wondering how I
did that with the
macbook (laptop) retina
Displayport to MiniDisplayport cable. I just have
a velcro tie. So it's (the laptop) is over there
chillin' in clamshell mode so I can grab this on the fly
and bring it out to my living room, and very quickly be able to bring it back in and sit down
it's up high enough where it's perfectly eye-level
for me. But I'm also able to
get audio out of my sound sticks (speakers) so I'm
stoked (happy) about that. I think it covers
Just the top of the speakers, but they sound perfectly OK.
I think honestly the only thing i might
actually do on top of that, is move this more to the left and get
this completely off to the left
side, and then have this flush to the back (wall)
but so far, actually, this is very comfortable.
I figured I'd
complete it (the video). I have some color profiling
to do with the monitors, obviously
contrast is way off. But it seems to be
a contrast thing, there's no dead pixels or anything else.
I do have a menu button, and there is an on-screen menu
Funnily enough, it looks identical to that of my old Dell monitor screen
but it gives you all of the video options that you would
expect to have in a monitor, so I
am going to go through this, and calibrate through
the next calibration steps. But this (the monitor) is a Samsung
LPS display (the panel). It's what they (Samsung) put into their own displays, so I got
both of them
plus, the stand, and the cables for less than
$200 cheaper than what I paid for
one Apple Thunderbolt display, which is
pretty crazy.
Hopefully this was useful for someone else, I don't
even think I'm going to bother de-bezeling these (removing the outer bezel of the monitor)
I think they look great they way they are.
I don't want to move the controls
to the backside of the panel, and reroute stuff
I think this this is perfectly fine for me I'm not really going to mind it
I think I might just adjust
screens. This is the first dual
monitor stand I've ever had, plus dual 27'' (screens), so
I hope you liked it!
Reach out to me if you have any questions. Thank you!
