Two cities in the U.S. state of California are using the 'East Sea' name in newly adopted
resolutions on Korean issues. Korea calls the body of water between itself
and Japan 'East Sea', while Japan uses the name 'Sea of Japan.'
The two resolutions adopted Sunday by the city governments of Dinuba and Reedley commemorate
Korea's March 1st Independence Movement Day. The resolutions also pay tribute to the early
Koreans who immigrated to the cities,... saying they contributed a great deal to the cities'
economic growth. Dinuba and Reedley are where some of the first
Koreans in the United States settled... and were the base of an overseas anti-Japan movement.
