Most English three speeds did not come with lighting from the factory, though some models
did. The higher end superb model in the Raleigh line had a built in generator in the front
hub that was called a Dyno Hub, built by Stermey Archer. That powered the headlight and taillight,
and it was a very solid, well performing system. But, a lot of people purchased after market
lighting, and here's an example using a bottle generator. First I'll show you the headlight,
it's mounted up very high. It's an unusual way to mount this light but it's probably
mounted this way because there is no bolt here on the front, due to the rod brake linkage,
so you can't put the light out front here. But, that's a nice quality light, a nice looking
light. Come back here to see where it gets its power, it's not battery operated, although
some lights are. This is operated by a bottle generator. This style generator has been around
a long time, it's very simple. You hit this, this leans against your tire, as your tire
turns, it turns this wheel which generates the electricity, and always they have a nice
red light for rear of your cycle attached to it.
