In this video I talk about how you should time pumping when you're not with your baby.
When I first had my first baby, I assumed that when he began to take a bottle when I
was not with him, I needed to start to pump. I would try to time it exactly and I would
call my babysitting at home and ask her "when is Headley going to start to eat?" Timing
all of this was incredible stressful once I was back in the office. Having just had
baby number 5 I've learned something. Duh! If it takes me an hour to feed the baby and
my baby is starting to feed at 2:00pm, it's okay if I pump at 2:00pm, 2:15pm, maybe even
3:00pm. As long as I leave enough time for my body to build up milk so that I have milk
when my baby needs to feed the next time. I'm okay. Another thing you can do if you're
trying to develop a pumping schedule for yourself in the office is just pump every 2-3 hours
for 20 minutes or so. This way you're consistently stimulating your body to produce milk and
you should have no problem producing enough milk once you're back with the baby. Remember
with pumping that you need to make sure that you get plenty water, just like when you're
nursing the baby, and just all sorts of milk and just good things to keep you hydrated
because although you're taking care of the baby you also need to take care of yourself.
