Hi, I'm Ann Bouchard, a co-founder and programmer at Mage Faire Studios, and today, we're doing
world building magic! Mage Faire takes place within an enchanted
painting, and so everything in the world is like a painting within a painting.
The ground you walk on, the trees, your avatar, even the sparkly effects are all paintings.
So this is a first glimpse at how you create the paintings that are the world around you.
The core of world building magic is: you select a source, and then move your avatar, and the
source magically follows you.
If you choose a different source, or move your avatar a different way, you can create
something completely different.
Even though everything in Mage Faire is a painting, some things have substance. For
example, you can walk on the paths that you've created.
Some sources work more like dropping individual paintings as breadcrumbs as you move along,
and you can adjust the spacing between the breadcrumbs.
You can walk in a straight line to create this very orderly, pristine avenue of cypress
trees and pillars.
Or, you can meander and loop back on yourself,
and create this very organic forest of palm trees.
And of course, Mage Faire being a magical place, many sources are purely magical and
fanciful.
With all the sources you can choose, and even combining sources together, and all the ways
you can move your avatar, the possibilites are effectively endless.
One of the things that we on the development team keep marveling at is you choose your
sources and you move your avatar for just a few seconds, and then you turn around to
see what you've done, and there's this huge, beautiful, amazing thing, and you just say
"Wow, I did that?!"
