We use the phrase that Queensland's a great state with great opportunity and
it certainly applies to the life sciences area.
Not only do we have tremendous research facilities,
great researchers already here but we've got a tremendous lifestyle here in Queensland,
with leading health, education, arts and cultural facilities.
We rely very heavily on the four pillars of agriculture, construction, resources and tourism and
life sciences contribute so much to quite a those number of pillars. And these foundations are complimented by our
growing knowledge intensive industries, I'm sure that we offer a pipeline of opportunities
for investors and they follow on from breakthroughs that are world class such as Gardasil, as
the Nanopatch and Peplin, all of these are great world class innovations coming out of Queensland.
Queensland has invested over 20 years into providing the infrastructure that
will enable businesses working in the life sciences to succeed it's also invested heavily
in education to ensure that we have the talent here to help businesses succeed overall
Queensland is just a great place to do biomedical research.
The industry is about to take its next major leap, we've come through the global
financial crisis, we've recognised we have a significant role to play in Asia and the
opportunities are in fact unlimited and limited only by our imaginations.
In an environment where the government is inviting and supportive of industry and in fact a number of
industry players are based here in Queensland and service the Asian market from Queensland.
Queensland offers excellent facilities for the development, research and manufacture
of these high quality biopharmaceuticals that we specialise in. Also in addition and as
important the pool of talent, scientific talent that we have here in Queensland is truly world class.
DSM has received a lot of support from the local government, from research organisations,
from hospitals, there's a real feel of a collaboration here.
Queensland has many excellent research institutions and incredible scientists and
the Queensland Government encourages innovations and that is very important for our collaboration.
We've got a very, very good regulatory environment for doing this sort of work and
we can go all the way through to field trial. We've got a very strong intellectual property
environment as well. So we're starting to get a reputation for excellence in life sciences
and excellence particularly in tropical crops.
Oh yeah Queensland is very nice to live and has a wonderful environment
and a pleasant climate.
Enjoy the sunshine, as well as the beaches and the city and everything
that Queensland has to offer.
We've been the envy of most other states in Australia when we talk about the
support that we get in Queensland from particularly from the Queensland Government.
And of course that's been translated into real outcomes because I think we're seeing now
tremendous outcome from that investment in life sciences in Queensland.
Queensland already has a long and proud history in the life sciences industry.
We've got amazing researchers, we've got strong medical capabilities and I'm sure this is
only going to continue to grow over time. But on the back of the great science we have,
there's obviously a need for investment. And I encourage all the investors to look very
carefully at Queensland, we've got the researchers, we've got the breakthroughs, we've got the
runs on the board and this is a state in which it's a great place to do business.
Queensland also offers a fantastic lifestyle with leading health, education and arts and cultural facilities
to say nothing of the fantastic natural beauty that Queensland boasts as well, its beaches,
its rainforests its national parks. And I certainly hope to see all those listening
here in the near future to look at doing business here and to continue this wonderful industry
in a state with great opportunity.
