I thought you were here having a drink you old fart.
I sure am man, is everything alright? You look a bit upset my friend.
Yeah, there are but I'm recently worried about my furnace because it's been making this humming
sound I just cannot trace. I'm worried it's a big problem and it will blow up in my face
one day.
Well, nothing's going to blow in your face but the birthday cake I have prepared for
your birthday this year.
Haha, well thanks for spoiling the surprise.
You'll still be surprised, believe me, hahaha.
Anyway, about your problem, you might be dealing with screws that are a bit loose. In my opinion,
if it's a vibrating part of the furnace housing, you should tighten the mounting screws.
I can do that.
However, you'll need to make sure you turn off the power to the furnace before you'll
try to work on it. This will prevent electrical shock and similar injuries.
Now that's something I'd certainly keep in mind.
Next, it could be that the ducts or plenum are causing the humming noise. If the metal
sheet that gets warm and helps create the warm air circulating through the ducts gets
loose, it will be moved by the fan's air.
Oh, I never really thought about that. You're very smart man, glad I'm receiving advice
from a guy like you.
Thanks mate. Be sure you check the inducer motor too though, because some furnaces do
have one and in time it will develop a roaring or a humming noise.
If that is the case, then you will need to get a new inducer motor, as this is the only
way through which you'll be able to stop the noise.
Now this was really enlightening for me Adi. Thanks for taking the time to advise me on
this.
That’s what friends are for Jim, sit down with me now and let's have a drink.
I thought you'd never ask!
