Laugh attack...
Again?
Hi! Thank you for watching! Today we're gonna talk about fashion,
to be exact about how to discover and develop your signature style, so
you're not inferior to Alexa Chung, Marie-Kate Olsen or Nicole Richie.
How to do this? I'm going to give you a couple of tips today.
'How to develop your own style'
Tip number one!
Make it visual. It may sound a bit weird to look at other people to get to know
your own style, but it can be very helpful.
My advice is to use Pinterest or Tumblr or Instagram
to make mood boards of street style icons or celebrities
or models or other bloggers you find cool and interesting,
who are wearing looks you might feel good in as well.
Making it visual and clustering your style
will eventually help you find similarities and is a good starting point.
Tip number two is the analysis of your moodpboard. You gathered a nice variety of beautiful pictures
and inspirational finds.
Now it's time to zoom in on your inspiration.
What is it exactly you like about these styles? Try matching words with it:
are the looks modern or bohemian or
very feminine? Or androgyn or tomboy?
Try to find the key words that match your style.
Once you sorted out your inspiration, it's time for tip number 3:
Have a good look at your own wardrobe.
There are probably a few patterns you discover,
I think we all have 'repeat buys': things we buy over and over again.
For me this is the striped shirt. I think I have about fifteen.
But no stripe is alike, is my philosophy.
But those pieces say something about you and the items
you apparently feel very happy and very YOU in.
So take a look at what those items are for you and pick three pieces out of your wardrobe you like most to use
as key items. These may be stripes T-shirts,
black jeans or a leather jacket.
Place these three items where you can see them and
look at it as the fundamental items of your wardrobe.
New things you might want to buy need to match these items.
A fourth tip is to take a good look at your strengths.
For example, do you have a beautiful narrow waist or
narrow shoulders or endless legs?
In the last case I'm going to be very jealous and we can no longer be friends...
but take this to your advantage when it comes to your wardrobe!
Don't be afraid to highlight those beautiful features
with clothes because
items will simply look very good on you and you will feel more secure if you
wear something that fits your figure nicely.
Tip number five is to invest in good basics, because if you get the right basics
it's a good starting point to experiment with your style or to match them with some funky accessories
or something high street to jump in on a trend.
When you wear good basics, you will always look stylish and chique.
In the end, they always work, no matter the season or the place you have to be.
Sometimes it's quite difficult: you see a hoodie with cats all over on Facebook or
a pineapple jeans and you're like 'Yes, this is an investment piece, I'm gonna wear this till the end of time'.
That's not true.
As an extra tip! Pieces that I find worth investing in, which is of course is a personal preference,
are a black skinny jeans, a nice, soft leather biker jacket,
a long wool coat appropriate for autumn and winter,
some good tops like a black, white and striped shirt,
a beautiful, crispy white blouse.
I like a soft V-neck or a soft, grey sweater.
Trousers in a print like a checkered, stripy or leopard or floral printed one.
And then a beautiful dress you can wear with a twist, so maybe something
with a print or a cute detail.
Tip six! One of the key elements to developing a personal style
is of course to stay close to yourself.
Sounds very logical but it can sometimes quite difficult if you have
at looks from other people a lot.
Maybe you recognise the situation when you are wearing something and you think:
'Am I being myself right now?'
If you're in doubt, it will probably show.
Owning your look is probably one of the best accessories.
These were my six style tips! I'm very curious how you would describe your own style.
Which two words describe your style? Let me know in the comments!
I'm very curious!
