Hey y'all, lead programmer Noah here.
Just wanting to take a few minutes out of my day to talk about what we're doing over
here at Shed Built Games.
I just took a few minutes to throw one of our models here into a scene
and, uh, decided show it off to you. What we're looking at here is the Human Cruiser.
I decided to throw in this little scene just you give you guys an idea what the
game's gonna look like and
some graphics we have here. As you can see in the distance we have a
big sun casting some light on the scene and in the background as you'll see here
there is actually a planet there that is being illuminated by the Sun.
One of the interesting things about
space is how dark it can be. As you can see on this model of the
ship here, the ship is actually casting shadows
on itself, with the Sun being the primary light source we have in this scene.
I think it's an interesting little touch that gives it a nice little feel.
Space is dark and vast and empty, and a lot of this game is about
exploration and exploring that dark empty void and find things that are there.
To that end, you need to have a spacecraft in order to fly though space.
But a ship is more than just a thin layer of metal
that separates you from the black void of space.
A ship is a lot like a person or
any other character that you might have in a story
and I feel that this game, it's no exception that
a starship is very much like a character in a story.
Each ship has its own set of statistics
each ship can be customized, you can equip it with different parts
these parts you'll have to research the schematics for
or research technologies, so that way the schematics can be discovered.
And then you'll have to you go about making the parts themselves
This either at direct thing that you do yourself
or your civilization does it on its own.
The fact that you are not pigeonholed into having to do one of these things
individually is what I think makes this a great game.
You can either choose to pursue
technologies yourself directly or just let it happen in the
background and then take advantage of it when it comes around.
Each ship has a crew complement
an energy resource provided by your reactor
and you also have your hull which are your hit points.
These are all important aspect of your ship,
you have to have all of them in order for your ship to function.
If any one of them drops down to zero, you become... well, unable to really operate
it varies depending on which kind of scenario happens.
Ships equipped with it will also have armor or shields,
which will help prevents those other assets from being drained.
But as is the case with shields, they will also require some of that energy in
in order to operate.
Obviously, you can't power something if you don't have power for it.
Ships also have weapons. That fun, space pew-pew that we all knew and love.
There are lots of different kinds of weapons that will be in this game
ranging from....
You know, projectile weapons such as railguns,
to missiles, to laser cannons, and possibly even some other
mysterious items that you'll have to find out in the dark void.
You'll also have a fun selection other parts such as
engines, different jump technologies in order for you to travel faster than light
and expand your reach beyond your local system. Cargo bays, research stations,
various other tools to allow you to customize your ships to whenever your
gameplay style will be.
All of this will be covered in later
videos updates on our Kickstarter page. So I encourage you to keep
checking back every day for more and more content. It's just way too much stuff for us to
reveal all at once. So we decided we will be releasing it on a daily schedule
which you can find on our Kickstarter page and we will be
bringing you more and more content each day.
So please keep coming back, check us out, spread the word, we greatly appreciate it.
This is a great project. We really looking forward to getting funded that way we can purchase
all that nice software and new hardware in order to make this game even better.
Thank you very much, this is Noah signing off...
