This is a collection of ten lousy minigames and it sells for roughly thirty bucks. If
you think that sounds like a good deal, who am I to judge?
This is Ice Age: Continental Drift—Arctic Games for the Nintendo DS.
To the game’s credit, I at least like the structure here. Arctic Games decides no one
needs an adventure game based on another Ice Age movie. Instead, it puts together some
minigames and throws them into a storyline that may or may not be from the movie.
As with any minigame compilation, the quality of its minigames varies. Some of the games
suck less than others, and that’s as much as I can say for them. The one with the platforming
was okay...if so paint-by-numbers that I could’ve sworn I saw a “666” underneath the snow
at one point. No clue what that means, though.
There was also this curling minigame that worked just fine, and I liked some of the
slingshot stuff, too. The real issue isn’t even the quality of the minigames. It’s
much more the fact that there aren’t very many of them. So you’d think the ones that
are there...should be really polished and awesome.
And they are not. They are melting.
Kids will probably like the fact that there are cut scenes from the movie. To others,
they’ll be justification for spending movie funds elsewhere, but at least they’re there.
Actually, that’s the best summary one could possibly provide for this game. If you’re
interested, at least it’s there.
I’ve played worse games than this, but whatever. I mean, what can I say? This is a game that
probably had, like, a week of development time and a budget that makes buying a can
of Mellow Yellow a financial setback. It’s a miracle it even exists, to be honest. Just
like the polar ice caps. We’re all doomed.
