As the officer approaches the driver's side window, there
are five things they're looking for.
First, whether you have slurred speech.
Second, whether or not there's a distinct odor of an
alcoholic beverage coming from the vehicle.
Third, whether you have bloodshot, watery eyes.
Fourth, whether or not you have a
coherent thought process.
And finally, number five--
and this is something most people don't realize--
the officer is watching to see how you obtain your driver's
license from your wallet, or from the glove box, or from
your console.
How you handle them with your hands.
Are they fumbling?
Can you not grab your driver's license without making it
fall, or your registration or your proof of insurance?
Bottom line, clumsiness with your hands is a dead giveaway.
