Google Scholar locates references to academic journal articles, books, theses
and other scholarly content
but often only an abstract is available for your results.
Fortunately, we can combine Belk Library's large, full-text book and journal
collections
with the power of Google Scholar's search engine.
The best way to do this is through the library's home page linked here on the
lower left.
This will connect the full-text of our book and journal collections to your search.
Let's give it a try using the topic 'Anxiety,
meditation, and learning.'
You can see at the top that I have over sixty thousand results.
I can refine this down to a more usable subset using the Advance Scholar Search
options at the top.
I can also expand my relevant results from any one item, using the 'Related
articles' and the 'Cited By' links.
The 'Cited by' link will give me the scholarly articles and books that use
this particular item in further research on the topic.
To see the full text of an item,
click on the on the title or on the full text link
to the right of each item.
Off-campus users will be prompted to log- in with their name and Banner ID.
If neither of these links work to give you the full-text, you can also click on
the 'Find @ WNCLN' link here
and sometimes also under the 'More' link here.
Let's click on that.
This page will walk me through a more thorough full-text search of the item in
our library.
Since this page can be confusing, we've created a video walkthrough
and a link to conduct a librarian at the top.
If none of these options work to give your the full-text
we've also given you the option at the bottom to use our interlibrary loan service,
ILLiad,
to request it from another library.
This option is also available to you straight from our home page
under 'Top Services' here.
Keep in mind that Google Scholar does not contain all scholarly research
available to ASU students.
Any in-depth research
should also include the library's subject specific databases and other E-research
tools
that are available from this link on our home page.
these databases offer the added benefit of more fine-tuned control over your search
and many more refining options.
In summary,
you should now be able to use Google Scholar to search for scholarly books
and articles and find their full-text through the Belk Library.
