Welcome to the tutorial for American Slavery: a Composite Autobiography. American Slavery is a collection of transcriptions of interviews
with former slaves about their lives and experiences under the yoke of slavery. The database is organized in several different ways.
You can browse using the different categories, or you can search using the search tab.
A search brings us into the main results page. Each Record has the name of the narrator, birth date and age, name of their former master,
and other information on where the interview was conducted and by whom. It also lists the subjects in the narrative,
which can be clicked on to see similar narratives. To read a particular narrative, click on "Read the Narrative."
It will be available as a PDF.
