family members about what is the true meaning of the holidays and that as a family you've
decided you want to spend more time together as a family rather than rushing around from
activity to activity and buying a gift for every single member of the family. Try to
talk about expectations and where those expectations may be coming from. What are some of the things
that you can hold on to as traditions? And what are some of the things you can give up?
But keep in mind some people might be too steeped in tradition and their own expectations,
and may not be able to cut back they way you're anticipating to this year. But ask that they
