We're going to go ahead and try swaddling our baby using a blanket that has been specially
made for swaddling. It's called Baby Swaddler by Baby Connection. It's cut in a certain
way, a certain shape, an oval shape, which has been designed to help the baby stay inside
their swaddled blanket, so that they're not able to really loosen the swaddle, so we'll
try it and see what we think. So, what we'll do is, we're going to go ahead and lay down
our blanket, which we've already done, and then we'll lay down our baby, opening up the
little pocket that has been provided for baby to go inside. So, take your baby, and lay
them down so that their head and shoulders are resting, the head right above and the
shoulders right at this edge of this blanket. Take his legs, and you want to tuck them inside
the pocket. So, it may involve moving baby a little bit, at first, or the blanket a little
bit at first, to help get him inside this pocket. Once he's inside the pocket, bring
him close to you, and make sure that this top edge of the blanket is where we need it,
right at the top of the shoulders, so bring that up there. And you want to take, first,
this side, fold it over, and tuck it underneath. You'll notice as you do that, you want to
pull it a little bit snug, but you'll notice right here there's a soft bit of Velcro, and
that's because on our other side, we have two flaps that have the harder piece of the
Velcro that will attach. So, helping keep his arm nice and snug inside his swaddle,
fold the other side over, and taking your bits of Velcro, reach all the way around and
attach it, both pieces, attach them on that softer Velcro, making sure now, we'll just
guide the blanket, making sure that it's nice and snug and in the right position. And you
can lift your baby up to have a look. Make sure that when you're swaddling that it's
nice and snug. A loose swaddle is not what we want. So, this one is nice and snug. And
a good thing is, you'll notice that it's cut in a special way so that there's no cloth
covering baby's face. So, we want to make sure that that's the case. That baby does
have freedom of movement of his face, and that there isn't any fabric in the way, causing
any covering of his eyesight or inhibiting any of his breathing. So we want to make sure
that that's the case, and that he's nice and snug in the blanket. And you might try this
blanket, and see. As you can see, the flaps Velcro right here on the side, so they stay
nice and secure inside this type of a swaddle.
