Ciao! Come stai?
Spero che tutto va bene!
Why speak Italian?
because today I received
a new pipe, an Italian pipe,
from Italy
I ordered it on neatpipes.com
great website
uh... owned by Luca di Piazza
who provides a really really great service
and he has a great selection of pipes.
so if you don't know it, just go check it!
The pipe
I ordered Wednesday arrived today
It was ordered on Wednesday
sent on Thursday and received on Friday. Really fast!!
I'll show you the pipe.
It came in this nice pouch
as you can see
If you don't know the logo it's a Radice pipe
made by
Luigi Radice and his two sons
in euh... I don't remember the name of the city but
I think it's north of Milano
i think you can guess what will be the general shape if you know my tastes
A Big Ol' Chubby!
Very, very nice one.
It is the "Radice" finish.
The Radice pipes come in several types of finish.
This one, "Radice" is some kinf of a brown finish.
i think is between the...
How to say...
You have the "clear" finish,
which is
fall really really great great grains
and it's a bit the same but without the darker contrast.
I like the "Radice" better becouse I like
the high contrast in the veins of the wood
Very, very nice pipe, pretty short,
it's just a bit more than ten centimetres, I think it's
106 millimetres.
Quite a large bowl.
This is almost 50 millimetres
and I think this is
something like 21, 22, and it's pretty deep too.
Nice large saddle bit, really comfortable in the mouth.
Great open draw.
I think this will be a really great, great smoker.
The markings are "RADICE"
here on this side
and on the the other side it's written "Hand Made in Italy 32"
i don't know what the "3" means, but the "2" means the year and its...
two hundred and twelve... euu two thousand twelve!
My other one
the "June Bug"
was written just the same but it was "31" for 2011
The grain is great,
birds eye here, birds eye on top
and grain coming up
It's called a flame grain or something
because it's not that really straight, it goes a bit... everywhere...
This pipe will be for smoking mostly
Virginias,
Virginia/Perique...
yeah, basically, no Latakia, no aromatics
No big "ghost"
uh... tobaccos.
Burley maybe...
Great feel in the hand
It might look big and all...
and heavy but it's actually really lightweight
and you don't have to bite in it, you just like...
hold in the teeth.
I'm really fascinated by those
nose warmers
chubby ones, the big ones.
This is the third one.
The first one you've seen it,
The "June Bug", the second one is the Luciano. So as you can see there is some kind of a consistency in my taste
Brown, briar, high contrast
and short and stubby. Chubby pipes.
this one smokes uh... Latakia.
This one will smoke, as I said,
more like Virginia and stuff like that
and this one is really just
for show and collecting
I just love it so much
I fell in love with this pipe but it's not for smoking.
Too bad maybe but
that's the way it is!
Hope you like it,
give me your opinion, on it.
Oh, the signature dots, here in briar.
okay, see you soon! Ciao!
Thanks for watching!
