So the first thing you want to know how to do is you want to make sure that your hardware
is connected to the software program itself. I happen to be using an E-mu Export 49 midi
controller and I'm using an HP Pavilion DV4400 notebook computer with reason 3.0. So the
first thing we're going to learn how to do is setup the control surface of the E-mu keyboard
is going to be corresponding to your notebook computer. So we're going to go up here to
edit and we're going to drag it down to preferences and we're going to click the drop box next
to page. Go to control surfaces and keyboards and as you see here I have others and this
particular keyboard isn't listed in the list of what they give you on the software itself.
So I'm going to click add the manufacturer has a saying other we have that already selected
on the previous screen. And you're going to go to the next drop box, this happens to be
a midi keyboard with controls so you go ahead and select that. It's registered here, the
name, other with midi controls the midi input is my E-Mu Export 49, it's already listed
there since I've already loaded the driver proper software, so it recognizes my keyboard.
If I wanted to select that I would select that from the drop box and click ok, but I
already selected. So what we're going to do is cancel out of that. And what you also want
to make sure of before you get started is going to the drop box and setting up your
audio so you want to come here to your audio card driver and mine happens to be the DX
digital audio. But if you were to click that drop box there would be a list I have Digedesign
software with the ASIO connection, I have the DX primary sound driver but I'm going
to use a DX sound mixer digital audio. Since that's what I normally use.
