Hi I’m John Pullum. I just got up the phone with someone that was planning the very important
Corporate Event. Like I’ve heard time and time in my 20 years of corporate entertainment. This
person was thrown into the job of party planning with no previous experience. She was given
a really nice budget to work with. After planning the meals, the drinks, the appetizer and the
center pieces, she soon realize that she forgot the most important part of the evening, the
entertainment. When she finally check her budget to see how much she had left, it wasn’t
much. She told me that just the appetizer alone where 3 to 4 dollars per piece, not
per person. Now I want you to think back to one of the last corporate parties you went
to the had Hors d'oeuvres or appetizers before the main meal. Odds are you worked all day
and you came home, you were hungry but you couldn’t eat because you know you’re going
out to the dinner. You get dressed up and go the party and they start with the Hors
d'oeuvres. Since you’re really hungry, you just don’t pick one order or 1 appetizer,
you probably get 1, 2, 3 or 4, 5. So you’re spending all these money on meatballs but
really when did the meatball motivate your employees? The lady that I talked to, budgeted
$10-$20 per person, for just ordering just the appetizers. A week after the party is
over, a month after the party is over or even a year after the party is over. Are they still
talking about how great and motivating the meatball was? I don’t think so! As you know
motivated and happy employees worked better for you. So before you spend literally thousands
of dollars on little tiny appetizers on toothpicks, put some money of that money aside to get
a quality speaker or entertainer for your event. For her event for over 700 people is
she had simply opted out of one or two appetizers Hors d'oeuvres on the buffet, she could have
buy it a quality speaker or entertainer. But she didn’t do that and she was left with
the budget s small and she couldn’t afford a speaker, entertainer or even a DJ. After
the party is over, she will left about with guests not happy, not motivated and probably
a boss that very, very upset with her. Don’t look like a goof ball, skip the meatballs.
