- Yo, wuzup? Brassyhiphop.com here. Now we are lucky to have tonight Afu-Ra in the house,
straight from Brooklyn to Spain. First of all, about Sandy hurricane in New York, is
everything OK there? The, the family is OK. - Yeah, yeah, about the hurricane, it was
not a big, it was not a big hurricane; it was some damage, some structural damages,
to some things, in New York City, but it did not take any lives. It was a, a small sitback
from New York City. And my family is fine, thank you.
- OK, so, about 2012, can you mention the main points along this year, related with
your, with your track, with your, with your job? Could you say the, mention the process
of your LP, of Body of the Life Force Pt. 2? Could you talk about the process of.
- Yeah, yeah, the process of making my album, basically, a lot of people really loved my
first album, Body of the Life Force, so 2012, 10 years after the first, I wanted to, bring
a new style of music in the fashion of the first album, and this was the process; to
pick tracks, to pick music that could be really, be very lyrical, because my first album was
very lyrical, but, at the same time, to give some different side of me, so that is what
you would hear on the new album Body of the Life Force Pt. 2: the same lyricist, the same
real MC, but with some new techniques with some different styles. More, how can I say
it, orchestrated; I know what I am doing now with the music, in that sense. My first album,
was like a freestyle, you know? I got each track and I just wrote the rhyme, I did not
think about the topic, just, just, just, whatever comes to my mind, so my new album, Body of
the Life Force, is a little bit, a little bit of who I was but who I am now.
- OK, so, talking about the featurings, you, you have M.O.P., Vinnie Paz, could you describe
the, the relationship of this, of this array of, of people?
- Yeah, I mean, my new album, my new album, the featurings are Vinnie Paz, Sean Price,
Sadat X, Vinnie Paz again, Nine, MC from back in the days, El Da Sensei, I got Lyricson
from France on there, Artish from Africa, yo, all the co, all the collaborations and
the connections with the different artists, is about the love of music. All those people,
who worked with me, because they respect me as an artist, they like me as an artist; the
same for me to choose them: people like C Rayz Walz, and Guilty Simpson, and, and, and,
and Vinnie Paz, and Lyricson, all that are here, I heard their music, and was that wow,
they, they are really good, you know, and, to bring together with me, I like to say every
collabo that I ever made, that I choose somebody to work with, it always comes out great, and
this why I want to work with them, because they great artists and I am a fan of their
music too. - And, now, I, I’d like to know your opinion
about this, this, this fashion of, of, P. Diddy, Rick Ross, Lil Wayne, and so on, showing
yachts, incredible cars, sexy ladies around against poor teenagers in, in the USA, what
do you think about this kind of, of new rap, full of jewelry, and full of flashy style?
- I mean, I do not wanna be like that. You got good music and you got bad music. You
got good music that is talking about women, that is full of Bentleys and big houses, talking
about money, but you have bad music talking about the same. Music is music. You have a
different style of hip hop, or different style of music, for everybody, and it does not matter
what I think; I think about me, and what I should do, for the people who love my music,
and that is first of all. To have so many opinions is like, let us say, it is like ***
holes: everybody have one, you know? To make a long story short, you have good music and
bad music; what is good is good, and what is bad is bad.
- OK, I understand. Now, today we, we have this, this party, and, tomorrow, you have
another one, and you have another one on Sunday; what do you think about this, this, this,
this, this fra, this frantic weekend? You have this today, tomorrow.
- Yeah, I mean, it is, it is great, I mean, this is, this is what I, at first, it was
not what I do, this, but, after a few years, after 3 or 4 years making music, to go on
stage and go live in front of people, wherever is fine, in France, or Russia, or Germany,
or America, wherever it is, is like this is the ultimate connection. They can hear my
CD all day, but when I go on stage live, after the show, they act like wow, like, you got
any new stuff? Can I buy a CD? When is your next concert? What is up with the new album?
It is the direct link with the people, and this is what I feel about this great, it is
like my birthday, every time I am on stage, you know what I mean?
- Yeah, good point, yeah. - And this is a very magical feeling, and,
I try, love this, and be thankful that I have this part of my life.
- And, next week, you have, Demolition Tour, it is a.
- Exactly, exactly. - It is a reggae rap tour.
- We will be in Barcelona, and, then, we continue in France, and also in Switzerland, we have
done about two shows and, also, we have been in Germany, primarily in France, Switzerland,
out to Russia, even though the other guys are not with me now, this is, actually, still
part of Demolition Tour, because I got my new album now, and it is about promoting my
new music and promoting my new works, and that is what is up, and it is a pleasure to
be doing this again. My mother asked me, before I left, how long you gonna keep doing this?
And, actually, I told her, as long as I can. If I am 50, or 60, and somebody write me,
or email, or call me for a show, I am gonna be happy to do it, you know? Because this
is one of my first, and oldest, longest, passions that I never, it is like, it is a part of
me. It is not even about. - Yeah.
- What I am gonna do. This is what I do, you know?
- Yeah. - I make music, I write songs, I try and connect
with the world, with the music and, it is kind of, like, such a surreal, unbelievable
feeling that, unless you doing that, unless you doing what I am doing, you cannot imagine
this. When I go and write my lyrics, somebody in Korea, somewhere, gonna listen this, like,
really study it, like what he said, how he said that, why he said this, and, and, and,
and, this is an incredible quality to have in my life, or, or job, or, or.
- Yeah. - Connection with people, it is, it is amazing.
- OK, now, finally speaking, facing 2013, could you announce any, any new track, any,
any new project? - Yeah, my, yeah, thank you, my new, projects,
I, I let the people brassyhiphop know Afu-Ra is, currently, I am on a world tour, I, I
am about to finish for the new year, and, well, I will go and celebrate the new year
with my family in New York, but, after, we will continue, maybe for the rest of the year,
working around the world, and supporting the new album, and, at the same time, I am writing
a book; it is about life, it is about culture. It is a secret topic. I do not wanna really
release the, the, the topic until I am finished, but it is something that most people are involved
with, in their life, and it is something to help people, maybe they are looking for answers,
or they are looking for, for some balance, or some, something new, new philosophy around
this different subject; at the same time, I am putting together my new album, I would
like to chart my new album for 2013, a combination of hip hop, a, a, a completely, not a completely
different style, but a new type of album, it is always, what I always loved to do was,
when I make an album, imagine something great for people, so I would like my, my 5th album
to be like that. At the same time, I do not know if you saw me, but I was wearing a leather
jacket; I am doing like some art with clothing on leather. And I am, I am, I am looking to
start my own brand of leather jackets, or leather wear, bags, jackets, pants, all of
leather, designed by me, kind like a hand made touch, as far as paint goes, and be a
better father to my children. These are all the projects for me for the new year: my clothing,
my book, my new album and be a better father to my children.
- OK, so, thank you very much for this videointerview and we wish you a great weekend around, and
we in contact. - Thank you. Yo, this is Afu-Ra right here,
Brassyhiphop.com, it is the Body of the Life Force, a world with two seas; when you want
