Here is the 2 minute breakdown of Key Concept 2.1: The Development and Codification of Religious
and Cultural Traditions. So as civilizations developed, religious and
cultural systems provided a bond amongst the people and an ethical code to live by. This
began to influence economics, occupations, and most of all, politics. Many leaders were
chosen through religious reason, which could sometimes cause conflicts amongst different
ideologies. Some traditional religions including Judaism, Hinduism, and Confucianism developed
some core beliefs that society learned to live by. Other religions like Daoism and Buddhism
challenged these traditional religions but also asserted new universal truths. All these
cultural beliefs not only installed ideas into the communities they spread to, but also
developed artistic expressions, including literature, architecture, theatre drama, and
sculpture. Many religions like Greco-Roman, Mesoamerican, and Indian cultures set trends
for the rest of the world to follow.
