Hi, I'm Jay French at Jayfrenchstudios.com. And I'm going to show you how to draw dwarves.
Good place to start with drawing dwarves is to make an oval that's actually very different
from what you'd normally draw for a human head. Much more - pretty much rounded although
slightly flat on top, slightly flat on the bottom. Dwarves are very squat and broad.
People often remember the squat but forget the broad. Now we've done a basic skeleton
here, diagram of the face, vertical line, horizontal line in the middle, horizontal
line in the middle between that and the bottom for the nose, and the mouth. So that you'll
notice that it comes out much more squat. Now you may want to draw in a sharp chin,
remember, you're not going to draw a beard without drawing - draw a dwarf without drawing
a beard, so, don't detail that too much. Now something a dwarf features is to get very
rounded features, course you can go a number of different directions but this is a good
way to depict them the way they're most commonly depicted. Heavy, heavy brows. Dwarves are
very masculine, even the females. Get a good amount of squint in there if you like. Make
that a little more prominent. Broad features again, let's keep that in mind. And rounded,
get those very prominent rounded cheekbones. You may not even see much of the mouth, do
the beards, there's a number of styles of beards you can do. We're going to do one where
the mustache comes down in braids. Then the beard itself gets pulled into one knot. There
you see where you lose that chin that you've ... but you knew where you doing it, so,
it's a good thing to have it on there, just don't worry about detailing it too much. And
they often have very high foreheads, again, get kind of a masculine feel. Broad shoulders and short necks, and you have
a good lesson in how to draw dwarves.
