The Higher education in Iraq has been undergone different changes
after the fall of the ex-regime including opening several universities
the number of Iraqi universities became 22 in a various regions
of Iraq and colleges has been expanded in their sections
that had been added a new topics to go along the scientific developments.
In Baghdad University there are 24universities,
5 academies for the postgraduate studies
10 centers for scientific research from various disciplines,
we have 15 scientific sections for initial studies
and 275 postgraduate scientific studies
and that covers many disciplines
we continue opening sections, branches that we feel
the country need them particularly for the technological development ,
scientific research and the new biotechnology techniques
in medicine colleges and centers
like the center of early detection of breast cancer
or for Mechatronics or biomedical engineering colleges
all those are new topics the world has started to deal with one way or another.
There is an evolution towards the scientific research,
topics and curricula, and there are good relations with foreign universities
to continue exchange of experiences and information.
The Iraqi government tasks from 2003 till last year were focused
to enhance security situation and the interest in universities was weak,
as long as we demanded to improve our situation and paying on universities
but we didn’t get any response and at that time
the university budget was very low.
The Iraqi universities in my point of view
withstood all these years
in spite of the hard circumstances in Iraq
that threat to close all universities
and intimidation students but we challenged the hard times
and opened before formation of the government
when was no policeman in the street.
Heads of university councils
were elected and dens directed their work
on 17l5/2003 they didn’t miss the year and
the graduation of the all students.
Recently, We have noticed that the Prime Minister office,
Higher Education and Ministry of Finance began to hint to us
that the year 2010 will witness an interest in Iraqi universities,
increasing of allocations, the provision of additional funds
within the budget and supporting the dormitories
We hope that this will be a reality in order to promote
the university and to get its status
among the universities of the world.
The distinguished thing on our universities
is that their professors are graduates from various universities
and such diversity leads to cross–fertilization of ideas
and cultures and to pump a new information
to our students so that we are keen to send our students
and professors
abroad in the form of missions, fellowships and sabbatical
we consider this a very important
the university of Baghdad is keen to support that process
in addition to the scholarships sponsored by
ministry of higher education or the ministerial committee formed at the premiership.
