If high loss is observed after a splice has been actuated, it is possible that the fiber
ends are separated.
In this case, lift the splice cap and reposition fiber ends in the following manner, making
sure not to completely remove the fibers from the splice:
Place the two fiber holders in the Fibrlok angle splice assembly tool base and open the
guide funnel and middle covers and the back clamp on the fiber holder.
Insert the Fibrlok into the assembly tool and lay the fibers in the appropriate channels
so there is no twist in the fibers.
Ensure the fiber holders are fully inserted into the tool.
Lightly close the fiber clamp on a holder so the fiber can move under the clamp.
Create a fiber bow and then fully clamp the fiber.
Repeat with the second fiber.
Ensure the second bow is the same size as the first fiber bow.
Insert the short prongs of the 3M brand Fibrlok II Splice Cap Lifter into the two holes on
the side of the splice.
The cap lifter will be at an angle to the splice.
The long prongs will be resting against the top of the splice cap.
Slide the bottom of the cap lifter inward until it is in a vertical position, lifting
the splice slightly out of the cradle.
Hold the cap lifter in place with one hand and push down on the ends of the splice with
the other hand.
This action should reseat the splice into the holding cradle and lift the cap at the
same time.
Repeat fiber centering and splice actuation.
Open the fiber holder clamps and remove the splice from the assembly tool.
If after two attempts an acceptable splice loss is not obtained, remove fiber, strip,
clean, re-cleave and re-splice using a new Fibrlok splice.
