After six years of waiting
the new Canis Minor observatory
of the Nagykanizsa Amateur Astronomer Association was opened.
The association bought a property on Kishegy,
near the village of Becsehely in December, 2001,
with the purpose of building their own observatory
there in the future.
Though the building was already started in 2004,
due to the narrow economic circumstances
it was only finished this year.
Despite the rainy weather many people showed up
for the ceremonial opening of the Canis Minor Observatory
during the weekend.
On the Pola Kishegy first Attila Gazdag,
the president of the association greeted the crowd,
which was followed by singing of the national hymn
supported by Mónika Gazdag on flute.
During the ceremony members of the association have expressed
their gratitude for the support they had got,
and priest Zoltán Kirner consecrated the newly built object.
The Canis Minor observatory is open
to the public and offers a new window
to the universe thanks to an unprecedented civil collaboration.
