There are roughly 15,000 food trucks rolling around towns throughout the Unites States.
And one of our viewers wants to know are food served from these food trucks safe or should
she be concerned? It's a great question. But you should know that the same guidelines that
apply to mortar and pestle restaurants apply to food trucks so they have similar guidelines
in terms of safety and they are inspected. So here are a few tips that will help you
make sure that the food from your favorite food trucks is safe. First of all, look for
the license to operate and the inspection grade. Most food service operations are going
to have a letter grade like A, B, C, D like report cards or a numerical grade from 100
and down. So look for the display that they have the license to operate and check out
their recent grade. Chances are it's going to be a good grade and as long as it's in
the nineties or an A you can have confidence that it passed the inspection. Another thing
that you should do is to take a look at the food service workers. Are they wearing gloves
to prevent any kind of contamination? Do they have on hair nets and hats? Peak inside the
window and make sure that the kitchen looks like it's clean and orderly. And then try
to stick to the foods that are pretty safe in general. The safer bets are going to be
fruits and vegetables, cupcakes, most fried foods, hot dogs. And the ones that might require,
that do require more safe handling and being kept at the proper temperatures are going
to be salads of all kinds, burgers, tacos, things made with meat. So don't be overly
concerned. Just use these tips and make sure the next time you go and order your favorite
food that it looks like, and there's evidence that it's safe.
